My Kind of Monday

Let me put it to you this way. I have been praying that Friday will be a snow day since 8:24am on Monday morning.

Monday was a full moon. I didn't need to consult an almanac, newspaper, or even the heavens. It was obvious to me at 8:20 as my math class should have been taking their seats, but were instead romping around the room flinging balled-up homework and yelling like banshees. I felt caught in some alternative setting of The Lord of the Flies. I came down on them hard, after all Monday sets the tone for the rest of the week and first period sets the tone for the day. They sheepishly took their places. I calmly took lunch count. That composure lasted for all of two minutes.

Then at 8:22am...

Natasha kicked Drake.
Jacob lost his lunch money, again.
Jamal lost his pencil.
Ben asked for extra credit.
Dylan corrected Palmer.
Jamal lost his homework.
Austin hid the note from his mom.
Isobel cried because she didn't understand her lesson.
Palmer called Dylan a "stupid-head."
Jamal lost his book.
Jyllann was selling tickets.
Drake kicked Natasha.
Thomas would not sit down.
RaeAnne asked to be moved.
Amanda yelled at James for looking at her.
Anita told a joke.
James dumped Amanda's books on the floor.
Anthony forgot to feed the chinchilla.
Aaron was drawing on the board.
Terri let the chinchilla loose.
Natasha kicked Drake.
Jamal lost his hall pass.
Drake kicked Natasha.
Aaron threw an Expo marker at Thomas.
Thomas "returned" it.

8:23am
I snatched the Expo marker and sent Thomas and Aaron to erase the front board.
Drake and Natasha were sent to opposite corners and told to quite "acting like shameful infants."
I caught a chinchilla told Terri to keep her hands to herself and to quit opening cages (or anything else) that didn't belong to her, I reminded Anthony to feed our pet.
I told Amanda that if it bothered her that James was looking at her she should close her eyes.
I made James pick up all of Amanda's books and return the class's library books.
I laughed at Anita's joke.
Bought Jyllann's musical ticket.
Changed RaeAnne's seating assignment.
Gave Isobel direction.
Told Dylan to mind his own business.
Asked Austin if he had a message for me (he did).
Set Palmer to writing an acrostic poem of complements using Dylan's name.
Pinned a note to Jacob's shirt explaining the need for lunch ticket money to his parents.
Gave Ben an extra worksheet.
Escorted Jamal to the office where I found his homework, pencil, and math book.
I sent everyone to their seats.

8:24am
With 24 pairs of eyes on me, I silently petitioned, "Let it snow, dear God, let it snow!"
